My Daily Use of the Quntis RGB Monitor Light Bar (Review)

I work from home a lot nowadays. When my desk is well lit, I’m focused; I’m ready to take on whatever I’m planning to do. Whether it’s work, painting minis, or gaming, I want to see what I’m doing! I’ve reviewed many lighting systems here, none have surprised me in usefulness as the monitor light bar systems.

In this article, I share my experience working with the Quntis RGB Pro+ Monitor Light Bar, an upgraded version to the earlier RGB light bar I reviewed. A huge advantage of monitor light bars is that they take up almost no desktop real estate. It frees up all that open desk space to work or play.

Dislaimer: Quntis sent me the RGB monitor light for review purposes, but the opinions and views expressed in this article are solely my own. You can be assured to find my review balances the pros and cons of any products, so you can make informed decisions about your purchases. See the Official Quntis Website for more details.

Key Takeaways

  • True Color Accuracy: With a high color rendering index (Ra95), the light bar ensures accurate, vivid colors, making it ideal for miniature painting and precise hobby work.
  • Customizable Lighting for Precision and Ambiance: Adjustable color temperature (3000K-6500K), brightness, and 240+ RGB lighting combinations allow you to tailor the lighting for both detailed work and creative ambiance in your workspace.
  • Eye Comfort for Long Sessions: The flicker-free, glare-reducing design minimizes eye strain, perfect for hobbyists and professionals working long hours at their desks or hobby stations.

I think overall the Quntis RGB Pro+ Monitor Light Bar is worth the cost, given other options for lighting up your desk. Yes, it’s on the pricier side, but this is addressed with a host of useful things, e.g., remote control, wide and bright illumination, that you’ll likely use all the time.

Top Features for Hobbyists and More

FeaturesDescription
Ambient RGB Lighting ModesSuper flexible RGB backlight modes are fun and create that ambient flair you’re looking for. Add some color to your space!
Flexible Optical DesignAlthough most monitor light bars claim to reduce glare and shadows, it does depend on how you set it all up. Angle the light bar in a way that bounces the light properly and you’ll have few shadows or hot spots to deal with. Once setup, you’ll have clear, distraction-free lighting for your space.
Adjustable Color Temperature and BrightnessYou’ll have 4 color temperatures (3000K-6500K) and 100 brightness levels to precisely control what kind and quality of light you want over your workspace. Control these features through a handy remote-control, so you don’t have to reach over to your monitor to make adjustments.
Eye Protection and True Color RenderingFlicker-free, blue-light safe, and with a Ra95 color rendering index, this light bar does a good job reproducing colors on working surfaces, e.g., art, painting projects, or for reducing eye fatigue.
Designed for Large and Curved MonitorsThe 20-inch width and sliding weighted clip make it easy to mount on ultra-wide and curved monitors. This is a feature that is always welcome, a necessity even; especially if you already have or ever plan to use large or irregular shaped monitors.

Too Dark? I know the feeling.

Focusing on brain heavy tasks requires energy. Why? Because fighting distractions drains you. I need good lighting otherwise my attention drifts. I just tend to float away as my eyes search for something “clear” to lock on to.

Light…and dark. Contrast.

It’s not a problem if I’m doing light duty things, e.g., checking email, a casual video game. But for productivity and comfort over long periods of time at my desk, e.g., painting a large miniature army or a commission piece, I need to see all the things.

So, that’s all it is: If you spend long hours at your computer or need precision for your hobbies, having the proper light is pretty important IMHO.

Not your friend…

I’ve test a lot of lamps and lights. A big drawback of many of them is that they take up desk space, or they’re heavy and need constant adjustment so get the illumination right where you need it.

Not so with monitor light bars. Sure, they are stuck to the top of your computer monitors; but if you’re okay with working in that space right in front of your computer, this has so many advantages. Not to mention, a computer monitor light bar also keeps your focus on your screen and desk area if you’re actually doing work things.

When I was offered the opportunity to check out the Quntis RGB Pro+ Monitor Light Bar, I jumped. I work a lot from home with large monitor setups. I also use a super wide curved monitor sometimes for those gaming sessions in between all the other adult-ing things I do, e.g., raising a few kids, bringing home the bread.

The Light Bar has both a front-facing task light bar and customizable RGB backlighting. You have both , functionality and the option to create a novel, immersive atmosphere. Yeah, it’s subtle, and some may even consider backlighting RGB systems gimmicky, but I like it. And, I’m still using it. Here’s what I think so far.

The unboxing experience immediately signaled that this was a premium product. Packaged securely, the light-grey aluminum alloy build of the Quntis RGB Pro+ felt durable and high-quality. It’s clear that the designers intended for this light bar to not only function well but to look great on any desk. Inside, you’ll find the light bar, a remote control, a 90-degree USB to USB-C cable, and a simple instruction booklet.

One of my concerns with any light bar has always been installation. Luckily, the retractable weighted clip made this process effortless. The clip is designed to sit securely on both flat and curved monitors–based on the included spec sheet, up to a curvature of ≥1500R–so there’s no awkward balancing or worrying that it will slip off.

For someone like me, who has a giant curved monitor, this was a huge win.

the Older Quntis Model DoeS THE JOB WELL

Before I got the Quntis RGB Pro+, I had been using an earlier model of the Quntis Light Bar Pro+. It worked great. And when I first received the Light Bar Pro+, it beat all my expectations in how much I would want to use it. The remote control especially came in handy, and I don’t think I’d want to get any monitor light in the future without one. A remote for your monitor light lets you turn it on or off without touching the light which can lead to bumping it out of place or messing up how you like it setup.

Of course, the new Quntis RGB Pro+ Monitor Light Bar adds to all the cool features of the Light Bar Pro+ by adding RGB backlighting and the ability to mount the light bar on much larger monitors, irregular shaped ones, and curved monitors.

The Quntis RGB Pro+ Monitor Light Bar mounted on a large curved monitor offers even illumination, perfect for those who need bright and adjustable lighting while working or gaming.

And, the price between the Quntis RGB Pro+ Monitor Light Bar and the Quntis Light Bar Pro+ are very similar ($60-70 USD). I did note that the Light Bar Pro+ is a tad brighter at around 1200 Lux, whereas the RGB Pro+ Light Bar is around 800 Lux.

Design and Features: Built for Curved Monitors and Larger Screens

One of the standout features of the Quntis RGB Pro+ is its 20-inch width for the light bar, which makes it perfect for larger monitors. The weighted clip not only makes installation a super easy, but it’s also incredibly sturdy. I’ve had no issues with it shifting or moving around, even when I adjust the monitor. Indeed, just make sure you peel off the backer and use the sticky tack that comes with the mount for extra security.

The sleek design of the Quntis RGB Pro+ Monitor Light Bar with an anodized aluminum finish, perfectly complements any modern workspace.

Of course, if you have a built-in webcam in your monitor, you’ll have to adjust the mount off-center so you don’t block the camera.

The build quality is excellent. Made from aluminum, anodized a matte black, the Quntis RGB Pro+ looks sleek on top of my monitor. When it’s off, you don’t really notice the light bar is there. The joint and pivot on the mount is dampened, feels solid when you adjust it, and there are no real visible gaps in the housing around the LEDs.

Mounted on an ultra-wide curved monitor, the Quntis RGB Pro+ Light Bar provides adjustable lighting for all your work and hobby needs.

The light bar does feel light in the hand when you pick up it, but that lack of heft works to keep the light bar from drooping or moving once you’ve mounted it on your monitor. It just works!.

A closer look at the remote control, you’ll see all the buttons are intuitively laid out. You may need to get to use learning how hard to press these buttons as they may not react to light touch. Press and hold a button for 1-second for best results, in my experience.

RGB Lighting and Brightness Controls

The Quntis RGB Pro+ has 4 color temperatures you can adjust to, ranging from 3000K to 6500K (warm to cool lighting tones). While the 800 Lux isn’t the brightest on the market, it’s plenty if you work at your desk and need the extra illumination directly over your keyboard space. It’s a good reading light, providing a diffuse light over your desk. While it won’t be enough to light up your entire tabletop or even come close to providing room lighting (no monitor light bar does), I think it’s more than enough to do the job.

The flexible mounting system of the Quntis RGB Pro+ Monitor Light Bar ensures a perfect fit for curved and irregular screens, providing consistent, glare-free lighting.

The RGB backlight is customizable, ranging from running rainbow lights, solid colors (e.g., blue, yellow, red, etc) and “crawling light” modes. Whatever your mood, you’ll find a color combo that adds to the ambiance to your workspace.

The best way to set this up, of course, is to make sure your monitor is close to a wall, so the RGB lighting reflects off the larger surface. I found this creates a room color cast that really adds a bit more style to your space.

I know some of you are video content creators, e.g., YouTubers. In your case, I’m not confident any monitor light would serve well as a web cam or frontal light. The angle is mostly down toward your desk, and not toward you.

But, maybe if you’re looking to create DIY videos where you film your hands working on a project on your desk, this monitor light bar could act as a fill-light and make your videos a bit clearer to produce. You’d have to try it out for yourself.

Controlling the brightness and RGB settings of the monitor light bar is easily done with the remote. Of course, as mentioned above, you may have to get to used to the response of the buttons. Remember,
“Press and Hold” the buttons to get them to work. In general, the ability to control the light’s color temperature, brightness, and RGB mode from across the room is a major convenience.

Eye Protection and True Color Rendering

Do your eyes get sore after working at your desk for a long time? Eye strain or fatigue is often an issue for several reasons. But, I think a lot of it for me comes from trying to read or see things that are too dim, which also means low contrast.

A versatile monitor light bar with RGB backlighting, ideal for gaming and office setups. I am always at my desk and a bit of color adds a bit of pizzazz, especially in the evening when the sun goes down.

Contrast is the measure of the brightness (or value) difference between bright and dark things that are in the same visual space. For example, very high contrast means things look super dark and super bright at the same time.

Poor lighting often leads to poor contrast, or low contrast on whatever things you’re looking at. To make up for it, your eyes have to work harder; you’re squinting or your irises are constantly adjusting, trying to find the edges and shapes in your visual space. It’s tiring!

Need a close up view? The closer you are to an object, the easier it is to see details; but, you’ll want more light.

For this reason, bright, good quality light can make you feel more alert, less tired, and focus on whatever task you have at hand.

Many lighting systems have flicker-free technology nowadays, and I don’t take much stock in these marketing claims as much as I used to. But it is worth noting that the Quntis RGB Pro+ does have this technology, too. And, it will help prevent eye strain.

The Ra95 color rendering index (or CRI) ensures colors you see appear true to life. There isn’t a weird shift in how things look. If you’re painting at your computer workstation or working on photographic editing on the monitor, this is particularly important if you want to avoid color distortion in your work.

The Quntis light bar achieves a high CRI rating (which is similar to the >95 CRI for the RGB Pro+), delivering true-to-life color accuracy compared to conventional lighting.

Is the Quntis RGB Pro+ Worth it?

Yes, the Quntis RGB Pro+ Monitor Light Bar is worth it. It’s one of the most reliable and useful monitor lighting systems I’ve tested. In fact, there are actually two options I would recommend, too. I think the Quntis RGB Pro+ Monitor Light Bar or the Quntis Light Bar Pro+ are both great options for monitor lights. The price for these monitor light bars is the same, and so which one to get depends on whether you want the RGB backlight or not. I’m sure you’d be please with either!

Final Thoughts

Well, what do you think? I’ve been using the Quntis RGB Pro+ Monitor Light Bar for several weeks, and like the other monitor lights I have, this is especially a good choice for it’s extra features, e.g., RGB backlighting, remote control, and ability to mount on large, irregular or curved monitor.

I hope you found this review helpful. I’m always on the lookout for cool gadgets and tech to help us in the hobby and art space. For those with home office workspaces and spend a lot of time in front of a computer, I’ve learned that these monitor light bars not only help you see all the things better, but also save you a lot of space.
