Casual Vs. Competitive Miniature Gamer? Target Audience Matters
Are you a casual tabletop or miniature game player, or are you competitive?
This is a great article that examines the ups and downs of the marketing strategy of a huge game company (i.e., Wizards’ of the Coast, maker of the Magic The Gathering collectable card game), as it relates to the two types of players out there: casual and competitive players.
The business principles and strategy of this company seem very relevant to other game companies, which could learn from these highly-public successes and mistakes of trying to focus too much on competition.

Having listened with great interest to the “Change Worth Fighting For” episode of the Cedric Phillips Podcast, I felt compelled to reply. On that episode, you wondered why professional Magic players have seen their fortunes decline so precipitously over the past ten years, and what they can now do to improve their situation.
